Instituted in 1958, as a mark to honour the memory of Maulana Azad, Azad Memorial Lectures are intended to foster promotion of better understanding among the different peoples of the world. Pt. Nehru, Prime Minister of India, delivered the first lecture. Lord Meghnad Desai delivered the Maulana Azad Memorial Lecture - 2004 on the theme “Globalisation and Culture” on December 14, 2004.
